Ants are seen the world over, from the hottest deserts to the lush green rainforests. We can find them in our backyards, in our homes, and even in our workplaces. Ants live in colonies, and a single colony may have over a million ants. There are many different types of ants. Some of the better-known kinds are the army ants, bulldog ants, driver ants, fire ants, honeypot ants, leaf cutter ants, silver ants, and weaver ants. Ant colonies are comprised of three classes of ants, specifically the workers, the soldiers, and the single queen.

Ants are one of the most common creatures in the world & are of different types. Regardless of their small size they could pose a threat to animals as well as humans.

The behavior of ants may vary depending on their class. Ants’ color may vary from red to brown or black and their size range from two to 25 millimeters.

Driver ants and army ants are highly evolved ants. Army ants can be seen in South America and driver ants can be found in Africa. Unlike other ants, these do not have permanent nests. These colonies reproduce via two ways – fission or nuptial flights.

Weaver ants, on the other hand, are those that create their nests in trees by putting leaves together. These creatures first force the leaves together with a bridge of workers and then they sew the leaves by pressing silk producing larvae on the leaves.

Honeypot ants generally have enlarged stomachs. These ants are typically found in hot, dry places such as deserts in Australia, Africa and North America. In some places, these ants are considered a great delicacy.

Leaf cutter ants feed exclusively on fungus and live only within their colony. They come in various sized classes to carry out various duties that are to be executed in the colony.

Ants that have a sac of poison are known as the fire ant. Their “poison” is known as piperidine alkaloids.

The Australian bulldog ants are those with only 1 chromosome & these are amongst the biggest & most primitive varieties of ants.
